Description

This comforting sour cream and onion chicken is baked to tender perfection with a creamy, tangy coating and a crispy golden topping. Made with pantry staples and minimal prep, it’s a cozy and delicious main dish that’s easy enough for weeknights and satisfying enough for company.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 1 packet (1 oz / 28g) dry onion soup mix (ensure halal-certified ingredients)

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 cup crushed halal plain or onion-flavored crackers or breadcrumbs

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter (optional, for drizzling)

  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish large enough to fit the chicken breasts.

  2. Make the Sour Cream Mixture:
In a bowl, combine sour cream, dry onion soup mix, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir until smooth.

  3. Coat the Chicken:
Place chicken breasts in the baking dish. Spoon the sour cream mixture evenly over each piece to cover.

  4. Add Crunchy Topping:
Sprinkle the crushed crackers or breadcrumbs over the coated chicken. Optionally, drizzle with olive oil or melted butter to enhance browning.

  5. Bake:
Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes, or until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the topping is golden brown.

  6. Garnish and Serve:
Let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Dry onion soup mixes vary by brand choose one without gelatin or other non-halal ingredients.

  • You can substitute plain yogurt for sour cream for a lighter variation.

  • Try adding sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions for extra depth of flavor.

  • Pairs well with mashed potatoes, steamed rice, or roasted green beans.
